Erotica for the thinking woman, this well-written novel interlaces the lives of three women in search of love, sex and adventure. Rose, Con, and Wanda, all disciples of the legendary Dorothy Parker, meet regularly for drinks to share laughter and tears as they recount their romantic and sexual escapades. From Toronto to Vancouver to Paris, these three jump in and out of bed with an collection of interesting men, discovering along the way some of life’s hard truths, but never without a dash of humour. Featuring shoes, martinis, clothes, champagne, and of course sex, The Gorgeous Girls is a smart, playful and delicious sexual extravaganza from start to finish.
This book was very different from anything I’ve read before. There isn’t a plot/storyline which is what I have read for a better part of my life. It was about these three women, Con, Rose & Wanda, who are best friends. The Gorgeous Girls is broken down into seven parts and each woman shares about a sexual experience they’ve had or is having. I would put this book in the category of “light” erotica, since I have read other erotica novels before that were a lot more explicit. It did pull me in once I started reading but I was still left feeling like “what did I just read?”
What I did enjoy was how these women would get together once in awhile and have these discussions regarding sex. They are way more open and free with what they share with each other than I would with my close friends. I have never experienced this type of openness with my friends and wonder if other women have talked about their sexual experiences with their besties. Personally, I think mine would look at me differently if I ever revealed what I have done or experienced. So I’ll just stay mum about it. I’d be curious to know what other readers will take away from this novel.
