Lick by Kylie Scott ~ Blog Tour and Giveaway

Synopsis

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride."

My brain stuttered and I stared at his mouth. He had the most beautiful mouth, with full lips that pulled up slightly at the edges. Stunning.

“Tell me what you’re thinking,” he said.

“You said not to think. And honestly, I’m not.”

“Good,” he said, leaning even closer. “That’s good.”

His lips brushed against mine, easing me into it. Soft but firm, with no hesitation. His teeth toyed with my bottom lip. Then he sucked on it. He didn’t kiss like the boys I knew, though I couldn’t exactly define the difference. It was just better and … more. Infinitely more. His mouth pressed against mine and his tongue slipped into my mouth, rubbing against mine. God, he tasted good. My fingers slid into his hair as if they’d always wanted to. He kissed me until I couldn’t remember anything that had come before. None of it mattered.

His hand slid around the nape of my neck, holding me in place. The kiss went on and on. He lit me up from top to toe. I never wanted it to end.

He kissed me till my head spun and I hung on for dear life. Then he pulled back, panting, and set his forehead against mine once again.

“Why did you stop?” I asked when I could form a coherent sentence. My hands pulled at him, trying to bring him back to my mouth.

“Shh. Relax.” He took a deep breath. “Did you remember something? Anything about that familiar to you?”

My kiss-addled mind came up blank. Damn it. “No. I don’t think so.”

“That’s a pity.” A ridge appeared between his brows. The dark smudges beneath his beautiful blue eyes seemed to have darkened. I’d disappointed him again. My heart sunk.

“You look tired,” I said.

“Yeah. Might be time to get some shut-eye.” He planted a quick kiss of my forehead. Was it a friend’s kiss or more? I couldn’t tell. Maybe it too was just for scientific purposes.

“We tried, huh?” he said.

“Yeah. We did.”

He rose to his feet, collecting his beer bottle. Without him to warm me the breeze blew straight through me, shaking my bones. It was the kiss though that had really shaken me. It had blown my ever-lovin’ mind. To think, I’d had a night of kisses like that and forgotten it. I needed a brain transplant at the earliest convenience.

Review

Evelyn went to Vegas to celebrate her 21st birthday. After a few too many shots, she wakes up hung over on the bathroom floor with a huge diamond ring on her finger and a hot tattooed man in her bed.

David has just had one of the most amazing nights of his life. He has met the woman of his dreams. She doesn’t treat him like he’s untouchable and for the first time in a very long time he doesn’t feel alone.

“Let me get this straight, you don’t remember anything?”

“No,” I said, swallowing hard. “What did we do last night?”

“We got fucking married,” he growled

WHAT?!?!? Can you imagine, falling for someone and marrying them only to realize that what has been the best night of your life was just some drunken mistake in theirs? When Evelyn begins speaking of a divorce, what else can David do but offer to have his lawyers take care of it? He certainly can’t fight for something that she can’t even remember.

Evelyn heads back home to Portland trying to forget that this accidental marriage ever happened and doesn’t plan to ever let anyone know. By the time she reaches home she is being swarmed with paparazzi. Apparently not only has she gotten herself married to someone she doesn’t know, but he is also a famous rock star!

David sends for her to join him in LA, to escape the paparazzi and get their divorce taken care of. After a very rocky night in LA, Evelyn and David decide to spend some time together and see if they really have a connection or not and put the divorce on hold.

Okay, so going to Vegas, getting drunk, and getting married is not the most original story line. What makes this a great book is a combination of really good chemistry between the characters, both main and supporting, as well as great writing! Kylie Scott has a very witty style of writing. I loved the banter between Evelyn and David as well as his band mate, Mal.

By far my favorite character is David! He is holding on to anger over Evelyn’s inability to remember that night in Vegas and the angst jumps off the page. David is a hot head with trust issues, but is also passionate and tender. He messes up, in a big way, very early on in their new relationship. While I wanted to be pissed at him, I was rooting for him every step of the way. He grabs your heart and doesn’t let go!

This book was a pleasant surprise. Judging just by the cover and title, I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. I thought it would be something dark and grungy and the title just doesn’t suit the book, in my opinion. I kept waiting to discover that someone had a licking fetish… I am happy to report that is not the case. I gave Lick four stars! It is a great read and David is definitely BBF worthy!
