Falling in love with each other was unlikely. Surviving their adventure was doubtful. Living without each other: impossible. For Addie Battes and Charlie Hays, a couple who defied all odds, life on land should be a breeze—except, for the fact that their newest challenge may include life, without each other… To everyone else it looks like she’s leaving for college, but for Addie Battes, it’s much more. She and her kidnapper Charlie Hays have found a way to be together and elude authorities. Yet fairytale romances aside; life isn’t easy with schoolwork, roommates, and meddling FBI agents. And balancing acts threaten to fall when violent competitors rise up to put Charlie and the guys out of business. Addie soon realizes that keeping her relationship with Charlie a secret is the least of her problems, especially with Charlie’s unfounded suspicions and jealousies. When misunderstandings surface, Addie’s worst fears come to fruition. Desperate and alone, she is faced with a choice: try to find her own happy ending, or fight to make Charlie a part of hers.

Deleted Scene:

I half expected the silence to stay. I certainly wanted it to stay. But it didn’t, Polo erupted in laughter point and jaunting out at Reid “You were sooo wrong Reid!” Reid lunged immediately and started throwing punches. While Ben and Yuri tried to break them up Charlie turned to me on the couch. Our hands hadn’t disconnected since dinner and I was glad for it.

“That’s why you were going to kill me” I smiled “You thought I sold information to the Russians or something.”

“They thought you did. You and that cop. Either that or he was and you were in for the ride.”

“This one’s big mouth is gonna get all of killed eventually.”

“I second that motion” Elise waited until Charlie picked up the fallen coffee table before setting cups and a pitcher on it. She mouthed the word decaf to me before sitting next to Polo, though I couldn’t help but notice she picked the side of the room where Ben was keeping Yuri at bay in his corner while Reid paced in his.

“Don’t you idiots get it? She. Is. lying. It’s all a scam people. She never went back to the house, she never called Harmen, and what? Your gonna let her bring us all down because shes got Charlie so twisted up he thinks he can’t live without her?”

“Shut up Reid” Yuri barked. “You did nothing but run your mouth off for months, planting ideas in everyone’s head trying to get people to believe crap we knew wasn’t true.”

“Your like a snake” Elise crossed her arms and glared “Always whispering things into someone’s ear.”

“I’m trying to look out for my friends.”

“I think he’s jealous” Polo’s sang

Yuri stopped him before he could lunge again, saving both the coffee and Polo’s face.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cause before Charlie and Reid were always mad together, but then Addie came and now he’s not so mad and Reid is all by himself.”

“You might have something there Elise mused.

“I’m amazed you’re still around to say it to. I figured Charlie woulda killed ya by now.

“If I was in his shoes I would certainly would have.”

“W-what? Are you serious?”

“You’re not welcome in this house Reid. Or any house of mine for that matter.”

“Your screwing with me right? I know you guys are mad, but I lurid the cops away. I—“

“I can’t trust you around my family Reid. Around any of them. Not anymore.”

“Bunch of morons. Look at the Goddamn evidence. If she didn’t do anything, then why did she write that letter? Why did she try—

“Enough!” Everyone looked at me as though they had forgotten about me altogether. But I seized up. I had entirely forgotten about my would-be suicide letter to Elise and how Reid had inadvertly saved me from myself, as much as he might not have wanted to.

“Just—let’s change the subject okay?” I smiled awkwardly and I knew it wouldn’t do the trick. Lame Addie, so very lame.

“Try what?”

“Nothing. Nothing okay? Reid is just making stuff up—“

We exchanged glances and the deviousness was there as it had always been I shook my head quietly, dreading the way he smiled and his eyebrows went up, the way he started to laugh.

“Oh hell!” He reached into his back pocket and looked at Ben still laughing. “Last week, when you wanted me to get another car and the rest of your old lady’s stuff…”

“Out with it Reid” Charlie demanded. I struggled to breathe altogether.

“Well since everybody gave me shit about going through the traitor’s e-mails, I thought I might keep quiet about it. But since—“

I wanted to run away when Elise yanked the paper from his hand, when she and Ben began glancing over it, their eyes skimming my words on the crinkled paper that I had wrapped in tears but Charlie squeezed my hand harder, silently forbidding me to leave the room.

Elise looked up with wet eyes, “Addie?”

I dug my nails into Charlie’s hand. Though I knew they didn’t really hurt him, it was enough for him to let me go anyway. “I-I…”

And I ran out the front door.
