SYNOPSIS

He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

šShe is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

šTogether, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

šBoth are willing to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

Review

4.5 Stars

Flynn Caldwell is a NY firefighter. While he was in his teens, he suffered the loss of his girlfriend and now, years later, it still affects him. He’s been taking risks while on calls. The latest person he saves from a fire is Rowan and her dog, Capone. She’s in need of help and Flynn will go out of his way to do whatever he can.
“To kill some time and try to figure out the enigma that is this woman, I glance over at her and ask, “So….what’s your story?”

She looks at me sharply, “Mind your own business. My story’s not that interesting anyway.”

“Her stubborn pride has me intrigued, and her bravery in the face of some scary f#*…ing danger makes me respect her. She’s tough as nails and as beautiful as an ocean sunrise and I find the combination to border on the addictive side.” ~ Flynn

While this started out as Flynn just helping her out, he’s beginning to feel a mix of different emotions for her. She doesn’t trust easily and has been on her own since she was 18. Rowan is determined, tough and also isn’t one to trust very easily.
“She’s a stranger to me, and the only bond we share is that of savior and victim. In my line of work, that does not make for a lasting bond. I save someone, I go home and forget about them.

But there’s no forgetting Rowan Page.” ~ Flynn

Rowan is tough on the outside and is very closed mouthed about herself. She’s been through a lot and I enjoyed watching the walls that she’s built up around her heart start to develop cracks when she’s around Flynn. The banter between these two is rather cute. Rowan’s boyfriend is on the police radar and after the fire at the apartment, they would like to get something on him to get to his drug supplier. But Rowan’s has chosen the safest thing for her and that’s just to lie low, keep her mouth shut and just hope that he doesn’t find her.

Flynn doesn’t give up in trying to share some of himself with Rowan to get her to open up about herself. Off Chance is just as good as the others in this Off series. Sawyer Bennett delivers an enjoyable and entertaining book to read. I love her characters and what makes them who they are today because of what life has thrown their way. The chemistry sizzles between Rowan and Flynn and you know that when they do finally make more out of their relationship than “just friends” the sparks are gonna fly and I wasn’t disappointed. Flynn is so patient with her and doesn’t push her even when its taking a lot for him to hold himself back. Rowan will be worth the wait.

The rest of the Caldwell family do make appearances in Flynn’s story, as well as Danny and Ryan from Off Sides and Off Limits, and I enjoyed visiting with all of them again. I have found this Off series gave me everything I want from the books I read…..great characters that I fall in love with, who aren’t perfect, sizzling chemistry, strong family bonds, suspense, relationships that take some work to finally have a HEA, heart-melting moments, times that made me laugh and story lines that flow and make me want to keep reading non-stop. Highly recommend reading this book as well as the others!
