BLURB:
Lost in Distraction (Lost #1)
by B.J. Harvey
In the three years after a horrible crime claimed her family, Elise Halliwell has been alone, shut off from the world in a self-imposed emotional exile. She goes through the motions, finishes high school and moves across country to start college and begin the next step in her pre-destined life.
But her exile is dramatically cut short by the entrance of a dark haired, blue-eyed, smirking man who shakes her to the core, achieving what everyone else before him has failed to do, he makes her feel again.
As much as he wishes it were different, fate has not brought Braxton James into Elise’s life, or has it. Brax has to keep her safe from people in her life who have ulterior motives and may want to hurt her.
Elise has no idea the threat she faces, and Brax wants to make sure it stays that way. But as Brax struggles with getting close to her, he begins to live a lie. Unable to resist the pull that is Elise’s bright green eyes, infectious giggle, and loving heart, he finds it impossible to stay away, so the double life of being Elise’s boyfriend and keeping her safe begins.
Full of twists and turns, danger and revelations that no-one could predict, you won’t be the only one lost in distraction.

Brax
“Was that Shay, babe?” she asks, looking at me with those bright green eyes of hers.
“Uh, yeah. He just wanted to see how far we’d gone today. He’s annoyed he couldn’t come along, but to be honest,” I say, inching towards her, “I’m glad I have you all to myself. My hot girl, in my hot car, it’s kinda hot, don’t you think?”
Elise
Hearing Brax say the word hot so many times in one sentence has my blood racing.
“Mmm hmm,” I say, darting my tongue out to slowly lick my lips. His gaze drops to my mouth and when he sees what I’m doing, a small growl rumbles in his chest.
“I see. Like that, is it?” he whispers, moving in closer so that our lips are barely touching.
He mimics my action, licking his own lips while gently grazing mine. It’s like the fire that we’ve been stoking all afternoon has been well and truly lit. Suddenly his hand is around the back of my head and he is pulling me towards him, plundering my mouth the moment I open my lips in shock. I grab his shirt, holding on for dear life as we struggle to control ourselves. Our tongues entwine as we pour all of the pent up sexual tension from the last few hours into this one kiss. It’s hard, it's raw, and totally uninhibited.
Brax has to pull away first, resting his forehead against mine as we struggle to catch our breath. I can’t help but give him a sly grin - I’m getting better as this little game of ours.
“You, my little minx, are gonna be the death of me if you keep that up,” he teases. “But if you can wait just another hour, you can have me as much as you’d like. It’ll just be in a nice clean hotel room, instead of being parked up at a highway rest stop. We can even get room service,” he says, giving me a cheeky wink before starting the car up.
The next hour can’t go fast enough.
Review
I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. It had suspense, secrets, & a relationship that develops & becomes something more unexpectedly. 4 Stars
Elise (Elle) Halliwell is in danger. Her father, mother & 10yo sister were murdered while she was away at camp 3 years earlier. Her father owned a multimillion dollar company, Brightlight & did very well building it up before his untimely death. She has no other family & is all alone. Her father’s partner, Harry & his wife Sylvie, took Elise in until she went away to college. Harry is a shady & overbearing pompous jerk. I didn’t care for the way he hounds/harasses Elise to sell her controlling interest in Brightlight to him. She owns 60%, while Harry has 40%. Obviously, he wasn’t happy finding this out when the will was read. He thought that it would be left to him. She doesn’t want to part with the last piece she has left of her family. Elise is to take over as CEO when she graduates college.
Braxton (Brax) meets Elise posing as a college student. He’s really there to protect her. He & Shay have been given the job of keeping her safe & finding out if she has any idea that she might be in danger. Brax & Shay have a long standing relationship since they were in the Army together & now work for a security firm. I loved how Brax was instantly attracted to Elise & he tries to fight his feelings knowing that you never develop a relationship with the one you are protecting.
Elise was devastated when her family was killed & it takes a lot for her to open up, not only to anyone, let alone Brax. But she lets him into her life. It starts when the two of them are paired together to work on a class project & slowly develops into something more that neither one of them expected. The mysterious black car outside on her street, the notes of warning that she’s next, Uncle Harry’s surprise visit to see if Elise has changed her mind about selling, these all keep the boys busy trying to figure out what is going on & who may be behind. All of this, while not letting Elise know that she is right smack in the middle of it.
Brax doesn’t like keeping these secrets, especially that he came into her life because of the possible danger she may be in. He’s afraid of the damage it might pose to their relationship. He didn’t expect to fall in love with her. Having Elle in his life makes him want to be a better person. But to keep her safe, he has to do something that he’s very torn up about. I melted when I read this.
“She’s completely unraveling me, she has turned me inside out & back around again. I can’t imagine how anyone could want to hurt her.”
I loved this author’s first book. This is written from both Elise’s & Braxton’s POVs. I like this because I can get into their heads & know exactly what they’re feeling/thinking. For a first time author BJ had the skill of writing a great story & keeping the reader wanting more. I found it hard to put down this book to get what I needed to get done in my daily life. We can’t read all day, as much as I’d love to. I’ll warn you now, this book ends with a cliffhanger. I need Lost & Found, like yesterday!

Author Profile:
Having always loved reading, and having been befriended and inspired by some awesome self published authors and book lovers alike, I decided to start writing my first novel, Lost in Distraction in December 2012. It was a conscious decision that started with a song, then the prologue and then catapulted from there. I love music too, like REALLY love music, if there isn't music playing, something is wrong. Out and Proud Vampire Diaries fan as well.
I'm also a wife, mother, full-time university student and I do contract work for myself from home.
