Beats by Kendall Grey ~ Review

Book 2 in the Hard Rock Harlots Series

WARNING: BEATS is specially formulated for horn dogs, porn oglers, smut peddlers, BDSM junkies, M/M and M/M/F addicts, DP dabblers, and lovers of A2M backdoor sexy times. If you don’t fall into these categories, can’t stomach hot man-on-man action, or if you have no idea what the above acronyms mean, please back away from BEATS now. This isn’t the book you’re looking for. Failure to heed this warning could inadvertently throw unauthorized users into a persistent vegetative state, or at the very least, require administration of a defibrillator to the chest and/or groin area. Nobody wants that.

For months, shy drummer Jinx Hardwick has been silently crushing on her tall, dark, and scary bandmate, Toombs Badcock. Drawn to his frightening ink and scars, she yearns to uncover the shadowy secrets lurking behind his silver eyes, but Jinx is too intimidated to even look at him, let alone talk to him. When she stumbles upon Toombs and their manipulative lead guitarist Rax in a compromising position, Jinx realizes her chances of winning Toombs’s heart aren’t just a long shot—they’re nonexistent. To make matters worse, Jinx’s family needs her at home. She’s about to back away from it all—Toombs, the band, her dreams of fame and fortune—when Rax makes her an offer she can’t refuse: a no-holds-barred night alone with Toombs. There’s one small catch. She has to go through Rax to get it.

Review

4.5 stars

I really loved this book! Yes, this book is different from Strings, so if your going into this story expecting Jinx to be like our slutty Letty, your dead wrong and you'll be disappointed.  Jinx and Letty are two different people, two different sets of personalities, with two different sets of beliefs.  I've actually seen Kendall mention this several times so I'm not quite sure what readers aren't getting about that.  Strings was a whole lot of rauncy sex with a bit of a story thrown in.  Beats is an actual story with a few sex scenes thrown in.....BUT those sex scenes are SMOKING HOT and majorly DIIIRRTTY, the warning should contain spontaneous combustion possible!

Now lets talk about that warning:

Ummmm SCORE! I was sold at the warning! That's all it takes for me to want to read a book!

The Story:

Beats starts out with Killer Buzz Float on tour. They are wrapping up their tour with sold out shows, and getting ready to record their album, but the band needs to write new music for the album. There is just one major problem, while all the rest of the band is cranking out new music……Jinx, the drummer is stuck and can’t find her BEAT. She has too many emotions floating around clogging her brain, and causing her to lose her creativity. She has issues at home to worry about, she's not quite sure who she is anymore, and then there is the huge attraction she feels to Toombs that she doesn't think is returned. All of these issues have spun out of control and have left Jinx thinking that maybe it's time for her to leave the band and her responsibilities behind.

The more time she spends around Toombs, the more Jinx wants him. Unfortunately, that just doesn't seem possible with Rax in the mix and the strange control that Rax seems to hold over Toombs. When Rax comes to realize that Jinx wants Toombs, Rax offers her a compromise. Spend one uncomplicated night with both Rax and Toombs....just sex...then Jinx can have a night with Toombs all to herself. Of course, things like this never work out....Rax has his own agenda and he doesn't care about anyone else's feelings when it comes to getting what he wants. And Toombs...well his fetish's are just a little much for Jinx to handle. Also, relationships like these always get complicated when feelings get involved, they never remain just sexual.

Can Jinx find strength in herself and find her rhythm, or will her lack of creativity result in being kicked out of the band and letting Kill Buzz Float and her family down. What happens with her relationship with Toombs and how does Rax factor in to the equation....is there even a future for Jinx and Toombs at all?

Final Thoughts:

Fans of the Hard Rock Harlots series will not be disappointed, I wasn't! Kendall gave us alpha males, menage scenes, hot sex, Jinx to make us feel, and Letty to keep us laughing! Beats was downright filty, scorching hot, funny, emotional, and even romantic in parts! I can't wait until the next book in this series....I hope it's Rax's story....even dicks deserve love too! Rock On!

Favorite Quotes:

“I’ve never been with a man who puts his entire being into a kiss, the way Toombs Badcock does.” Jinx

“Between the vivid tattoos and the scars taking up huge portions of his dermal real estate, it’s hard to concentrate on his face. I’ve got a sudden urge to hump his leg. Especially with him staring at my lips like he wants to maul them again.” Jinx

“I can’t serve two masters. You stole my heart and soul when you gave yourself to me while Rax fucked me in the hotel. I knew I had to have you to myself.” Toombs

“Love is like music. You have to work at it. Love is ugly and painful sometimes, but it can also be pretty fucking awesome once you figure out how to play the right notes to the right rhythm”

“What I'm saying here is sometimes the one you love introduces you to the person inside - the real one who you're close to, you don't even recognize her. Sometimes the one you love knows you better than you know yourself. They bring out the best in us when we least expect it.”

And of course, I have to leave you with words to live by from the hilarious Letty.....

“Just found this when I was taking selfies of me blowing Shades in St. Louis Cemetery. #1 Goddamn, this place makes my ass cheeks clench tighter than an old nun’s shriveled cooter, but hey, spitters are quitters, which makes me a winner.” Letty
