Unbreakable by Rebecca Shea ~ Blog Tour and Giveaway

Synopsis

Jessica Harper is the epitome of perfection. She’s a good daughter, makes excellent grades, and always strays on the safe side of life. The last thing she thought would ever happen was falling in love with her best friend’s brother. But sometimes fate just has a way of bringing two people together.

Wide receiver for the University of Arizona, Gabe Garcia, seems to have it all. When his feelings for Jessica come to surface, Gabe will give up everything to be with her.

But what happens when a tragedy abruptly changes the course of your life? For Jessica and Gabe, everything they thought they knew about each other will be questioned. Sometimes, there are scars in life that are cut too deep to completely heal.

Will their love prove to be unbreakable, or will it shatter and prove fate is just another lie?

Goodbye Jess

I knew this morning when I woke with her warm body wrapped around me that this was the last time I would see her, touch her—feel her. It was a mistake to spend last night with her, sleep in this bed with her, but she needed me, and for a fraction of a second I wanted to believe she wanted me.

Her arms are wrapped loosely around my waist, and I feel her cheek pressed against my back as I wind us carefully through the streets of Wilmington on my Night Train. The roar of the engine does little to quiet the voices bantering in my head—one that tells me to fight for her, and the other that tells me to let her go.

Pulling into the parking lot of her condo, I pull right up to the sidewalk that leads to her front door. I don’t shut the bike off, and make no effort to get down. Her hands loosen from around my waist and I feel her slide off the back of my bike.

She stands looking at me, waiting for me to do something, anything, and all I can do is swallow against my dry, tight throat. I nod at her and notice the pain in her eyes. I know I’m making the right decision in letting her go, but damn if I’m not doubting myself.

I twist the throttle hard and my bike lunges forward. I don’t look back; I don’t need too. I can feel her green eyes on me, and I can feel her pain—ripping through me. My heart is pounding and for the first time in years, tears sting the back of my eyes. I swallow hard, fighting to bury these feelings—feelings I never wanted to feel, but found me regardless. This is why I don’t love. I fuck and leave. Cut and dry. Clean and simple—except with Jess.

Review

I enjoyed this story. I ADORED Gabe he is PERFECT book boyfriend material and one of my favorite things about this story was Jess's relationship with Gabe and the Garcia family.  My only complaint is that this is such a deep, intense, raw, emotional story and I just wish I could have connected with Jess better and felt her emotions, instead I felt myself connecting to Gabe more. 4 stars.

Unbreakable is Jess's story.  She lost her mother when she was younger and her father has never really been there for her, choosing to drown himself in work because he can't deal with the grief of losing his wife.  Jess has been fortunate though, because she has the love of her best friends family, the Garcia family. She grew up with Ava and Gabe and practically lived with them. Of course, being so close to Gabe she developed feelings for him, even though she never meant to fall in love with him.  When she finds out he feels the same way, all her dreams come true and they finally get their chance to be together....to be happy.  Jess's and Gabe's relationship is perfect but tragedy strikes rocking their world.  Life as they know it has changed, including their relationship, and they are left trying to pick up the pieces.  Can their love survive once things are broken?

“I promise you that I love you with everything that I am, and I want you to know that it is only you, it has only ever been you that I love.”

This is a good debut novel for Rebecca.  Unbreakable was a beautiful, heart-warming, love story that teaches us that even though our lives may not go as planned, you can survive tragedy and you don't have to do it alone.....your one true love will always be standing next to you to hold you when you fall.  I also loved the fact that there was no cliffhanger. I look forward to reading more from Rebecca in the future and can't wait for Landon's story!
