Schizoaffective disorder: a mental illness in which a person experiences a combination of mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms.

I know about this illness—very well—because I suffer from it. It’s been four years since my diagnosis, and ever since, I’ve been living in a dark hole. Voices constantly invading my thoughts. Hallucinations. All of which force me to question if what I’m experiencing is even reality.
But here I am, still hanging on, still breathing and living through it.
That is, until he stumbled into my life. Logan Reed. I don’t want any part of him. I’ve pushed him away, but he isn’t easily deterred. I’ve told him I’m different, but he doesn’t care. He’s trying to slowly break me down. I’m trying just as hard not to let him. He doesn’t know how truly damaged I am; what will happen when he does?
I know the truth—he’ll never be able to look at me the same way again. Just like everybody else.

Review

I enjoyed this story, E.L. has taken a sensitive subject, a subject that many people "stereotype" and choose to ignore or overlook if it doesn't affect their lives, and has managed to tell a story that is truly beautiful and touching, and she does it with class and compassion.  While I enjoyed the story development in the book, I'm going to be honest, it took me quite a while to get into Perfectly Damaged. Things crawled along at a snails pace for Logan and Jenna, and at spots it caused me to lose interest, but when you read the story you really can understand why E.L. told it the way she did, I just wish I would have connected more to the story. 4 stars.

For a short moment within that one kiss, I forgot who I was. The world around us was completely still. I was lost in the arms of a complete stranger. That’s what bothers me most: him. He bothers me. I know nothing about him, so how the hell could he make me feel so alive, so at peace, so... safe?

Looks can be deceiving. While Jenna may look normal on the outside, she suffers from a mental illness she can't control. She has up days and down days, and the one person that seemed to be able to help her, that loved her unconditionally, her sister Brooke, has been taken away from her.  Her mother doesn't care, her father does but he works to much, and she does have a best friend Charlie who tries to be there when she needs her but still something is missing.  One day Jenna meets Logan Reed.  Logan works for his uncle's construction company and they are building Jenna's family's guest house.  The attraction between the two is immediate.  Logan is all bad boy cocky, covered in tattoo's and smoking hot. Jenna knows once he learns the truth about her mental illness he wouldn't stick around, won't want to be with her, so she friend-zones Logan.  The more time they spend together, the more it is plain to see there is so much to their relationship than just friends.  Can Jenna find the strength to tell Logan the truth about her mental illness, and will Logan risk it all for Jenna once he know's the truth?

I want her to be surrounded with brightness in her life. I want her to fight through the darkness and find her light someday.

I hope you'll give Perfectly Damaged a chance. It really was a beautiful, relatable, "different" love story. I just wish we would have gotten more of an ending for these characters, more of an epilogue. I'd really love to see more Logan ;)
