Love, in English by Karina Halle ~ Release Blitz and Giveaway

Synopsis

A standalone, contemporary romance....

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.

He speaks Spanish. I speak English.

He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.

He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.

He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.

I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.

Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.

***

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.

Something that can never, ever be.

Or so she thinks

Review

As I write this review, I am just finishing Love, in English and I am trying to wrap my head around all the emotions that I just experienced….the beauty, lust, heartache, despair, guilt, the love of two people who were never meant to be, never meant to fall in love. Vera and Mateo found one another and knew they couldn’t let go…they couldn’t live without the other, no matter the consequences, even if that love that shined so bright between them was going to devastate and tear apart the ones around them and possibly destroy them in the process.  Let me just start by saying I am a huge Karina Halle fan and she handle the issue of infidelity tastefully in this book.  Infidelity is never easy to swallow and I’m sure you’re asking yourself how infidelity in any shape or form can be handled tastefully? My answer to that is, Karina wrote with such emotion, such power that she made me believe and feel Vera and Mateo’s love for one another, I never felt like what they were doing was wrong, I felt like they belonged together.

Karina’s writing is flawless, the characters are so unique, and the story captivating. I loved how this story was separated into three parts, and although the length of the book was quite long, I do have to mention that I felt that the ending was a bit rushed….then again, that could have been me not wanting to let go of Mateo and Vera.  Love in English is a HUGE 5++ star read for me! If I could give it more stars I would!

“Love causes war and causes death, breaks souls and breaks lives.  It runs people into the ground, makes them behave like moronic, immortal beasts, before it dances off, leaving only destruction in its wake-hearts blown wide open for the whole world to see.”

The story
Vera is a 23 years old, Canadian girl. She is carefree, has a ton of tattoos, and very comfortable with her sexuality. She decides to turn down an astronomy internship, and instead decides to travel to Spain be a part on a language program which helps Spaniards with their conversational English.

It is during this one month language program that Vera meets Mateo. Mateo is a 38 year old Spanish businessman, who happens to be married with a little daughter. While at Las Palabras, Vera and Mateo become friends. Vera opens Mateo’s eyes and makes him feel like he is living again. Love is unpredictable; soon Vera and Mateo feel much more than friendship sizzling between the two of them. No matter how much they resist, someone’s going to get hurt…their families, their hearts…will Mateo and Vera take a chance for love or will they live their lives always wondering what if?

“You can’t fall in love in a week,” I told her heatedly.

“You can fall in love in a second,” she said with a snap of her fingers. “The heart has no regard for time.”

Love, in English moved me from the bottom of my heart; it gave me hope, made me believe, that no matter the obstacles….no matter race, distance, age…nothing will keep true love apart.  Vera and Mateo’s journey is at the top of my list of favorite books of 2014 and of all time!

“It meant everything to me.” ~Vera

“You’ve bewitched me, Vera. You’ve blinded me.  You’ve made me forget my vows. And all you had to do was shine.” ~M
