Review

I’ve been a fan of Teresa’s since the Honor Student series….what can I say I’m a huge fan of any kind of story that has a forbidden romance type of feel to it and Pretty Little Things had that plus and element of suspense to it.  I read Pretty Little Thing straight through, in one day, I was sucked in from the Prologue….. I couldn’t put it down until I figured out exactly what was going on in this story! 4 stars.

“I told you I wasn’t the good guy, little one.”

Annie is a high school student.  She just turned 18 and she is trying to live a normal teenage life.  Her life is anything but normal, it’s all a big lie.  Colin is posing as her brother in order to keep her safe, he is her protector.  The problem….Colin feels more like an animal, he feels a calling from his darker side and wants to keep this away from Annie.  There is definite chemistry between Colin and Annie and not long before lines are crossed… secrets are revealed…can they overcome their past for a chance at a future?

“Patience, little one. I want to take my time with you.”

I really enjoyed the originality of this story.  It was mysterious, steamy, and kept you guessing to the very end.  My only complaint is I wanted just a tad more into Colin and Annie’s future.  I can’t wait to read more by Teresa Mummert!

Pretty Little Things Excerpt Three (Wounds Scene)

“What are your plans for the day, little one?” I asked, and she startled.

“I have a report I need to finish on the adverse effects of corporal punishment used on children.” I laughed and shook my head, my eyes going back to the television. “Yeah, so that will be fun. But if Connor and Grace aren’t back, I can always skip school tomorrow.”

“Not a chance.”

“I wasn’t asking.”

I looked over at her, her eyebrow raised in challenge.

“You had a private tutor.”

“I had antisocial tendencies and a habit of challenging authority.” I laughed as the credits rolled on the screen in front of us.

“I don’t doubt that.”

We fell silent as we both sat, unmoving. “So this guy…” I let my voice trail off.

“He’s just a guy.” She shrugged as she pulled on a loose thread on the blanket.

“Is he a good guy?”

“Are you?” she shot back.

“That’s a loaded question.” I stood up, stretching, and when I looked down at her, her smile fell. “What?”

“Did that hurt?”

I sighed as I thought of the marks that covered my back. “Don’t.” I walked over to the shelves of movies, scanning the titles. I didn’t know if it bothered me more that she was asking about them or that she looked upset over my injuries. I was no one for her to feel sorry for. While I’d received them for not doing what I was told, I’d earned them by following through with the orders. But answering that question perplexed me. If you take a child and never show him affection, any attention received is positive in his eyes. Coupling that with the twisted abusive behavior and dominance that was instilled in me so young, I learned to derive gratification from receiving pain as well as giving. It was a release, a way to atone for my sins.

She stood and walked up to my side. My scars should have been a warning to not get close to someone like me, but Annabel saw my dominant side as a reflection of my overprotective nature toward her. My eyes closed as her hand ran softly over my back. Her featherlight touch on my own wounds more painful than when I had received them.

“Annabel, stop,” I bit out, but she continued on, her fingers trailing over the raised welts. My body stiffened, not wanting someone to give me affection I didn’t deserve. It turned my stomach, and for once I was completely thrown off guard. So I did what I knew best, and I instilled fear in her.

“I said fucking stop,” I seethed as I grabbed her by her shoulders and slammed her small body against the movies, causing the shelves to shake. Her green eyes were wide with fright, and now I was the one desperate to touch. Her fear was palpable, and while I knew I was pushing away the one person who even remotely began to understand me, it was for her own good. She didn’t have to understand as long as she listened. But listening to me was something Annabel rarely did anymore. She’d become too comfortable in my presence, and now she ignored the alarms that would set a normal person on edge. That was what terrified me about her seeing this guy. I had no idea what kind of person he was, but I knew Annie wouldn’t be as cautious as she should be.

“Annabel…” I rested my forehead against the case, my body hovering over hers, caging her in with my arms on her shoulders. Her name came out like a plea for help.

“I-I’m sorry.”

I lifted my head and looked at her. The fear-induced stutter let me know I had succeeded in making her understand.

I took a step back from her, running my hand along my jaw before turning and leaving the room, desperate to put distance between us.

By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. Tethered Excerpt: "I whirl around and rush towards the exit. It’s January, in Chicago no less, but I feel hot and my palms are sweaty. It feels very stuffy in here and I am having difficulty breathing. I promise myself I won’t turn around and look. There is no reason to look. I won’t look. I’m only a few feet from the door. I turn my head and look. It is as if there is a magnet that draws my eyes to his exact location every time I say I will not look. If I have looked in the past and he was not in my immediate eye sight, I may have turned away and been okay, but that never happens. My eyes always find him right away. He looks stunning in his tuxedo. His deep blue bowtie hangs to one side and his shirt is unbuttoned a few buttons, revealing the beginning contours of what I know to be a well-defined chest. His dark hair is a little on the long side. Hair falls across his forehead. It’s sexy. His wife hates it. She must not like running her fingers through it. His hands are in his pockets as he speaks. He looks casual and relaxed. I look away and escape the crushing pressure of the room. I dig into the little purse strapped to my wrist and get my ticket for my coat. I thrust the piece of paper at the guy behind the counter and he retrieves my coat a few seconds later. I walk out of the building and away from the few people outside who also dared the cold. I follow a walkway until I find myself on the other side of the building, facing what is probably a very gorgeous garden in the warmer months. It was still pretty, even under the ice and snow. I look around and am relieved to find myself alone. The sun is setting. The lampposts are flickering to life. It is cold as cold can be out here, but I needed to get out of there.

Book Description: Nate Peters is living the playboy life. He has great friends, a great job, no responsibilities, no girlfriend, and he loves it. Nate, being incredibly skilled with a pick-up line, has never failed to get a girl in his life… until one day he meets Rosie York. Rosie is completely uninterested in him. Being unable to stand a dented ego, Nate makes it his mission to win her over. Not used to putting in much effort, Nate is surprisingly enjoying the chase of this off-limits little brunette. Maybe he has finally met his match… But Rosie has a few surprises of her own which will make it remarkably more difficult for him to get close to her. *Please note that this is a companion novel to Nothing Left to Lose*

Review

Don’t ya just love it when the Man-whore who claims that he will never fall, finds a girl that completely knocks him off his feet and makes him change his ways? *Sigh* Nate, Nate, Nate….gosh! I couldn’t help but love him…he is so sexy, silly, and confident. He thinks he has Rosie pegged down, until she gives him a run for his money and makes him work to win her heart! 4.5 stars.

"I'm not the guy your mom warned you about. Your mom doesn't have this much imagination," I joked, winking at her.

Enjoying the Chase is Nate and Rosie’s story. We get to meet them in Nothing Left to Lose, as they are Ashton and Anna’s best friends. Nate is the overly confident Man-whore who is positive he will never fall for one chick, always quick to move on to his next conquest. Rosie is emotionally damaged and has baggage. She is not one to trust men ever, after being burned bad in the past. When Nate sets his sites on Rosie, she brushes him off and he can’t believe it. This never happens to him....game on! The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and eventually Nate wears down Rosie’s walls piece by piece. But will Rosie ever completely trust Nate? And will Nate give up his Man-Whore ways once and for all for Rosie?

As I raked my eyes over every inch of her face, I felt my life changing. I felt my priorities shifting around, and everything fell into place. My life finally seemed like it was in track. The funny thing was, that I hadn't even realised that it was this girl that I'd been waiting and looking for all these years.

Another book that Kirsty Mosely has nailed! Such a sweet, romantic, story! I am quite the fan of Kirsty’s after discovering her on Wattpad years ago. Her writing is just so flawless and beautiful. My only complaint may be the length of this book, because it is literally like the title “Enjoying the Chase” and so it was a little repetitive, but Kirsty did manage to add a few little twists in that kept me interested in the story! I really hope that the ending of this book gave us a hint that there may be another spin-off coming with certain characters children involved…..OMG I would so love that! Or Seth? Yup…Seth definitely needs a book, and then we can see more of these characters also!

Excerpt

“Ill see you Friday then.” She bit her lip as she opened the front door, waiting for me to leave.

I gulped, needing to push my luck a little further. “Before I go, I wondered if youd be interested in making a little bet with me.” I raised a challenging eyebrow.

She rolled her eyes, laughing. “Im not betting on how the date is going to end, if thats what this is going to be about.”

“No, actually, I was going to bet you twenty bucks that I could kiss you without using my lips.”

Her nose crinkled up as she frowned. “That’s impossible. You can’t kiss someone without using your lips,” she countered. I waited, letting her think about it while silently praying she hadnt seen this trick before. “Alright, yeah, Ill take that bet,” she suddenly agreed, smiling confidently.

As I took another step towards her, she instantly stepped back and bumped into the wall behind her. I smiled at her deer-trapped-in-the-headlights look. The vulnerability of her and her cute little bewildered expression made my lungs constrict. Unable to keep the smile off my face, I bent my head slowly towards hers. Her breathing sped, but her eyes never left mine. As my lips touched hers, I tried not to moan at the soft feel of them. My whole body was itching to grab hold of her, kiss the life out of her and hear her moan my name. In that moment, I knew I shouldnt have kissed her, because now I didnt want to leave.

I forced myself to pull back after a couple of seconds. “I lost,” I whispered to her obviously shocked face.

The Author Kirsty Moseley

My name is Kirsty. I was born in Hertfordshire, England. In 2000 I moved to Norfolk, it was there that I met my husband, Lee. Now, what can I say about Lee, apart from everyone should have one? He's my biggest supporter, and I wouldn't be where I am today without his encouragement and endless support. He is my inspiration behind most of my male leads, I always try to bring a little of him in somewhere, be it his kindness, selflessness, or just his ability to make me feel treasured. In 2005, I was gifted with the birth of my son. He is, and always will be, the best thing I have ever done in my life. As you can probably tell, I'm a very proud mummy. I have always been interested in writing, but after the birth of my son I accidentally came across an amateur writing site. After a couple of months of just reading on there, I finally plucked up the courage and posted one of my stories. I was shocked and overwhelmed by the support of readers on there and they gave me the confidence to get where I am today. In April 2012, I self-published my first novel ‘The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window’. And in October 2012 I took the plunge again, publishing my second novel, 'Always You.' Lastly, if I had to sum myself up in one word, it would probably be ‘daydreamer’ – but unlike most of my school teachers, I don’t necessarily view that as a bad thing. After all, I read somewhere once that books are like waking dreams….

3.75 Stars

I'm still trying to cool down after reading this hot, steamy, sexy romance.  I thought my Kindle was going to catch fire.  While this book had a lot of sex scenes, there also was a storyline woven around the scorched pages on my Kindle that kept me hooked.

Sage Matthews has been working very long hours at her own business & her friends, Lilly, Brianna & Kaidence feel that enough is enough already. They are getting her out for a night at a club, no matter what.  Little does she know that the four, hot, Harper brothers she's known for a long time & been wanting for what feels like forever, find out she lied to them about what she was doing that night & show up at the club.   I guess being the owners of the security business that has a contract with the club that she's at has it's advantages.  This night starts the "fires" burning.  Logan, Caleb, Jeb and Mac Harper can't stay away from her any longer.  She frustrates them, ties them up in knots and definitely knows how to push their patience and limits.

Harper's Little Spitfire is a very steam novel.  While I enjoy reading erotica and read a lot of it, the scenes were well written and thought out, but I'm wondering if there might have been a little bit too much of it.  It definitely didn't take away from my enjoyment of reading and wanting to see how it all played out.  There's the bond of friendship between Sage and her friends, sexual tension, frustration, hurt feelings and finally being honest with one another.  Warning...there's threesome and foursome scenes in here.  Yes, foursome. Couldn't quite picture this happening, but Angel Steel made it work. I'd read more from this author.

Deliver was a book that caught me by surprise.  The story line captured me and dragged me in for 5 hours straight!

Liv is a Deliverer.  The only way she has to keep her family safe is to attract young men then capture them, train them, and deliver them to a life of slavery.  She thinks she deserves this life, she can handle it-until him.

Joshua Carter is a good Christian.  Living at home on his parents farm, he works tirelessly to help keep their farm running, goes to school to become a Preacher, and is a star football player for his school.  When he falls into Liv's trap his life is turned upside down but he sees her as someone he can save; not a deliverer.

The depth of this story amazed me.  There were so many twists and turns I was kept constantly on my toes.  Admittedly it took a bit for me to get into the story line, but when it picked up-it rocked.  Liv was a bad ass Mistress that knew how to keep her emotions locked up tight.  I admired her strength for all she endured for 7 long years.  The change in her when she sees Joshua Carter for the first time is one she struggles with; her emotions start to resurface.  What I really loved in this story was the hidden part of Liv that wasn't shown until the pivotal plot turns.  She was bad ass but kept her true self hidden away-preserving the goodness in her for when it counted most.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

The story had so many different layers to it; dark erotica, love, lust, unrequited love, slavery, and so much more.  I truly never saw what was coming next and loved that it kept me reading nonstop to find out what was going to happen.  I cannot wait for the sequel to this book!! This is a definite must read and a series I look forward to following!

He slammed a fist into the nearest tree trunk. Again. Again. Pain ricocheted through his hand, down his arm, and fed his breaking heart.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught her silhouette standing a few yards away. A slender shadow, shrouded by darkness. And in her raised arms, she held a gun, trained on him.

He threw another fist. Absorbed the burn. Expelled the rancor. He knew she was holding a gun on him to prevent him from running and putting her family at further risk. Regardless, she wouldn’t shoot him. Not because she needed a slave, but because she loved what was hers with a self-destructing passion. He faced her and held out his arms. “I’m yours.”

The girl and the gun didn’t move.

“Lose the damned mask and stop hiding from me.” He raked his throbbing hands through his hair. “Scream, cry, hit something. Hit me. But for God’s sake, let it out.”

The shadowy lines of her body wavered. The gun lowered, returned to her boot.

He stretched out his arms, savoring the cool breeze brushing over his unrestrained skin. “I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will.” His blood beat with the ferocity of his words. “I won’t be free until you are.”

Her head jerked back, her body rigid. Then she walked straight to him and unleashed her fists on his chest. She clobbered him over and over, her gasps accelerating with each fall of her hand.

The lashing didn’t hurt. Not like the whimpers rising from her chest. She was hurting, lashing out for the wrongs that had been done to her. A sharp pain swelled in his throat. The only thing he could do was take it in, try to bear some of it for her.

He held his arms out and his body open. When her hits ebbed into weak slaps, she stumbled back, hugging herself and clutching her elbows.

His heartbeat slogged through the ache in his chest. He kept his arms outstretched and whispered, “I’m here.”

When the Sun Goes Down by Erin Noelle ~ Release Day Blitz and Review

Title: When The Sun Goes Down
Author: Erin Noelle
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: 25th March, 2014

Trina is a quiet, reserved music teacher at an inner-city elementary school. Because of the traumatic events of her childhood, she’s skittish of people in general, but men especially frighten her. However, when Lucca Ellis appears in her life, he refuses to take no for an answer. Will he be able to help her overcome the past that has kept her a prisoner for over eight years?

Kat is a woman scorned and out for revenge. Wronged by the men in her life, she thrives on belittling and dominating all men that she comes in contact with. These two lives that both thrive on control, were never supposed to overlap, but anything can happen… When the Sun Goes Down.

Excerpt:
When the Sun Goes Down

~ Trina ~

“A sexy woman, eh?” I close my eyes as that deep, male voice that has been playing in my mind for the last four days calls out to me from the doorway.
I pivot on my heel to see Lucca leaning against my door frame with a smirk spread across his face. He’s wearing dark jeans and a plaid button down shirt with the sleeves loosely rolled up to just below his elbow. He causes the strangest feeling inside of me when he looks at me; I hate it and like it all at the same time. I really don’t have time for this distraction in my life.
“I have no idea what my dear friend is talking about,” I say, acting aloof. “She’s desperately trying to make my life exciting, and unfortunately, that’s just not happening.”
He wanders into the room, my body temperature rising with each step that he takes closer to me. “So if you don’t like sexy women, then men are your thing?”
Rolling my eyes, I sigh overdramatically. “People aren’t my thing. I’m fine by myself, thank you.” I move around him to rearrange the instruments that really don’t need rit.
“I don’t buy that, Miss Foster. Everybody wants to feel wanted.” His eyes follow me around the room, the heat from his stare causing my entire body to flame.
Standing upright, I turn to face him as his words slice to my core. “I know what it’s like to feel wanted, Mr. Ellis, and believe me, that’s not what I want. Feeling wanted and being loved are two completely different things.” I stop before I say anything else to reveal information that I don’t want anyone else to know, especially the guy that enlivens things inside of me I didn’t even know existed. “My students will be back from lunch soon, so please excuse me as I set up.”
“You’ll never know what being loved feels like if you don’t allow anyone to get close to you, Miss Foster.” Running his fingers through his messy hair, he walks out of the room. “I’ll see you around.” His voice is calm and collected, and the words he speaks are true. I’m just not ready for anyone to be close to me. I know if I let someone in, they’d run away scared once they found out who I really am, and my heart would break all over again. I just can’t.

Wow! This story was woven together perfectly. When I started reading, I wasn't sure how this book would play out. It has POVs from Kat & Trina. I got to meet Trina Foster, an elementary school music teacher, who doesn't let anyone get close to her. She keeps to herself and doesn't have any close friends, but she does have a female co-worker at school that she talks to. She doesn't have any relationship with her outside of school. While at work one day, she meets Lucca Ellis, who's filling in as a substitute teacher. I loved him right from the beginning. There was just something about his character, mannerisms & personality that was hard to resist.

Then there's Kat. I was a little confused as to how she fit into the story, but figured it out as I read more. Kat is dealing with a childhood tragedy & still hasn't gotten through it. She's determined to deal with it her way outside of the therapy she's had. And she's trying to heal anyway she can. She doesn't have anyone outside of Leo, her driver, etc. and his mother who have both been in Kat's life since she was young.

When the Sun Goes Down has hidden secrets, suspense, men that offer comfort, the feeling of being safe & will do anything to protect the women they care about. From the beginning, I felt the troubled emotions these women were going through. It didn't have a cliff-hanger, per se, but I'm wondering if there will be more to this story in the future.
