Synopsis:

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

Excerpt

Later that morning after their workout and shower, Jake fell asleep on the couch. Feeling at a loss with nothing but time on his hands, Ryan wandered down the hall towards Fin’s room. She was sitting at a little study nook in the corner, laptop open with one foot resting on her chair. She was wearing a tank top and a little pair of shorts. Leaning up against the doorframe, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from those long, delectable legs.

As though sensing his presence, she turned in her chair. He forced his eyes upwards, catching a sexy flush fill her cheeks at his blatant perusal.

“Morning, Ryan.” She took off her black framed reading glasses and tossed them on the desk.

“Morning, Fin,” he replied.

Against his better judgment, Ryan pushed away from the door and walked farther into the room. Fin hadn’t changed at all and neither had his desire for her. His heart kicked over when she met his eyes. He knew everything he was feeling right now was written all over him, but he couldn’t seem to shut it off.

Her eyelids fluttered closed and she whispered, “Why now?”

Ryan took a deep breath. “I don’t know,” he replied honestly.

He shouldn’t still be feeling this way after so many years. Why was he doing this to her, and to himself? It was better for everyone if he stayed away like he was supposed to.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll go stay at the barracks.” He turned to leave.

“Ryan!” she called out. Scrambling out of the chair, she grabbed his arm as he was halfway out the door.

“Fin,” he warned, looking down at her hand pointedly.

She took a step closer and he breathed her in, her scent like jasmine on a hot summer’s day. He was surprised when he looked into her eyes and saw anger burning hotly in their depths.

“Six years, Ryan. Do you know how hurt I was, each day passing by and getting nothing—not even a note or an email? I didn’t just lose you. I lost my brother too. Both of you left me, and I was okay with that. I understood that this was what you needed to do, so I moved on. I built a life that doesn’t include you. That was what I had to do.” She paused and raised a shaky hand to cup his cheek. “I’d have given you my entire heart if you’d only asked, but it’s not yours now. It’s not yours.”

Ryan closed his eyes, agony for losing what was never his rose in his chest until he felt strangled by it. He placed his hand over hers, holding it there until she tugged it away.

“You’re right,” Fin told him. “You should stay on the barracks … but I don’t want you to. Damn you, Ryan,” she whispered fiercely. “I don’t want you to.”

Ryan used his bulk to crowd her against the wall until there was no room for her to move. Leaning one hand against the wall, he grabbed her hip with the other. Her breathing rose rapidly and he leaned in, ducking his head until their mouths hovered a mere breath apart.

“Why can’t I force myself to leave?” He rested his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. “I hurt too. For six years I fought every day not to think of you, and I lost, because every day you were all I could see. You were the best thing in my life—so sweet and innocent, and so goddamn tempting.” His hand strayed from her hip and slid down to grip her ass. He swallowed the groan. “I stayed away so you could move on.”

Review

Every once in awhile a book will really touch you to the point that you feel like you are living that story, I can count on my hands how many times this has happened and one of those times was Fighting Redemption.  This is without a doubt one of my favorite books ever, I felt so many emotions while reading this book, and I'm pretty sure I sobbed the entire time while reading this powerful, touching, heartfelt emotional journey about a damaged soldier and his true love and their  struggle for a chance at a HEA.  5++++++ stars!

The Story:

Fighting Redemption is a story about war.  It's a story about the men and their families and the sacrifices that are made by these men, who give up their lives to fight and to protect our freedom. But more than this, Fighting Redemption is a story about love, friendship, dreams, and hope.

Ryan Kendall grew up neglected, he had an abusive father and a mother who let it happen because they were all suffering over one tragic accident.  He quickly becomes friends with Jake Tanner, forming a brother bond and became a part of their family. He spends as much time with the Tanner's as he can and they come to think of him as a son. Finlay is Jake's baby sister, and they loved each other from the start.  As much as Ryan loved Finlay he never let his feelings be known, he knew he was leaving soon to join the SAS army and didn't want Fin giving up her dreams for him.  So, they move on with their lives.  Ryan and Jake are at war and Ryan cuts off all communication with Finlay, that is until 6 years later when he sees Finlay again and he realizes his love for her has remained, in fact if anything it grew stronger. Ryan and Fin's relationship is intense, passionate, heart-wrenching, and so so beautiful.  The journey they face won't be easy, if anything, it will be one of the hardest things they have ever done.....but true love is worth every single struggle they face.

Final Thoughts:

One of the best books I have ever read! If my reviews persuade you to read one book....choose this one! The characters were amazing, the story was amazing! Fighting Redemption was absolutely beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional.....a timeless love story that will stick with me forever!

Favorite Quotes:

"I’ll love you longer than the stars that live in the sky stars."

“You’re the strongest person I’ve ever known, but someone smart and brave once told me that it’s always the strongest that fall the hardest. You can trust me, Ryan. Let go. I’ll be here to catch you. I’ll always be here.”

“I hurt too. For six years I fought every day not to think of you, and I lost, because every day you were all I could see. You were the best thing in my life—so sweet and innocent, and so goddamn tempting.”

“Would they only ever have those fleeting moments—the ones where you lived the briefest, loved the hardest, and burned like the devil had set fire to your very soul? They were the only moments in his life that had been worth a damn.”

“I want you, Fin,” he finally admitted. “So damn much I can’t sleep from it. I lie in bed at night and I dream of my lips on yours, my mouth tasting every inch you. I want to fuck you until I go blind from it and even then I don’t think it would ever be enough.”

“That’s so far from the truth I can’t believe you’d even think it. I have a thick skin, baby,” he told her, his wide shoulders crowding her back against the cool tiles, “but you’re under it. You’re buried in there so deep it’s like I was born with you in my soul.” His eyes slowly ignited as he slid soapy hands over her hips. “When I’m near you I’m consumed by you—your smile, your eyes, your heart. Even though we’ve never been together, you’ve always been mine, and even if I never get to keep you, you’ll still be mine.”

“War is a cold, selfish bitch, Kendall. It changes you. It makes you hard, and it makes you hurt, yet somehow, we keep going back for more.”
“Because we’re soldiers,”

Synopsis:

Luke Harper was finally starting to settle into his life - a life that had previously been full
of more heartbreak and pain than most people ever experienced. He had a job he loved,
and was blissfully content in his on-again, off-again relationship with the striking, and
highly sexual, Holly. But, life throws Luke another curveball with the arrival of the alluring
April, a woman stuck in a tumultuous, violent marriage to a famous athlete. Luke soon finds
himself torn between what is safe, familiar, and right, and what is dangerous, unknown, and
forbidden.

Thou Shalt Not Teaser:

She was looking down into the water.

"You know, if I knew you better I would probably push you in," she said very
nonchalantly, as if letting me know the water temperature.

"If I knew you better, I would probably beat you to it," I replied.

She turned to me, her eyes full of mischievous energy.

"Oh really?"

Her hands quickly went up and grabbed my shoulders, and mine instinctively grabbed
her waist. I could feel her grip tighten when I touched her, and her eyes widened.

"If I go in, you are going in with me," I said, shuffling my feet closer to the edge.

Her hands moved along my shoulders and her feet edged closer to mine.

"I'm a grown woman," she said. "Threats involving water don't scare me."

Her bottom lip curled up under her teeth as she smiled, repeating what I had said
earlier. Or mocking me, perhaps.

I tightened my grip on her hips and flinched, pretending I was about to throw her
in. She gasped slightly, hands grabbing my shoulders tightly again. Her hips arched
forward and she leaned up on her toes as if in reflex.

"I thought you weren't scared," I said, pulling her closer to me. "People usually don't
gasp when they are ready for what's about to happen."

She was less than a foot from me, her face getting much closer to mine.

"It depends on what's happening," she said, looking up into my eyes.

I wasn't thinking about throwing her into the water anymore. Everything within me
wanted to pull her tightly in and kiss her right there, in front of the pool in the house
her husband bought with all the millions of dollars he had made throughout his career.

Kiss her on the spot where he probably threw numerous parties. Kiss her on the lips I
wished were mine, and not his.

The look in her eyes told me she wanted the same. At least I thought they did. I
hadn't been in a position where I felt like this for someone in a long time. Thankfully,
my hands were around her waist or I surely would have been able to feel them get
clammy, nervous, like a high school kid on his first date with the prom queen he never
thought he could get.

She is calculating, remember? I thought to myself. If she hadn't wanted it to get to
this point she never would have asked you over to her house. She wants this as much as
you do.

I wasn't sure which shoulder angel was feeding me that line but whoever it was, I knew
they were right.

My hands pulled her closer until her feet were between mine; our legs and waists
touching.

"You have really strong shoulders," she said. Her voice was soft and she tilted her
head up toward mine when she spoke.

Do it, I told myself. Kiss her.

My heart was racing, and I could hear the beating in my ears. My hands moved up her
body and found her neck. My fingers laced in her hair behind her head and I pulled her
up.

Praise from Tarryn Fisher

Salty. This book is salty. There is no sweet. You'll be hard pressed to find a unicorn. It
is sexy and frustrating. I grow so tired of "perfect" steamy hero's. I don't like perfect.
I like my men a little nerdy and aggressive. Luke is way nerdy. We have a lot of male
perspective books coming out, but most are written by women. I'm really wondering at
this point if we are getting it right. As for the actual storyline...I was riveted. Hero is
playing with married woman fire. He has a hot, little blonde on the back burner. I didn't
know who to root for. The author's writing style is what I'll praise most. It's so different.
Polished. And I love being in a man's head. They're simple, but damn are they dirty.

I.LOVE.THIS.BOOK.

Bonus Chapter at the end of Thou Shalt Not

Last Hit by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick ~ Blog Tour and Giveaway

Book Blurb:

Nikolai:

I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all bespoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you’d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy:

I’ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Homeschooled and farm-raised, I’m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best in people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he’s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man that has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk..and also, my life.

Review

The synopsis.....I was all in after reading that! Hit-man falling for innocent sheltered girl? Sign me up for that! I really enjoyed this story....although parts were a tad unbelievable, it's fantasy so it didn't bother me too much. 4 stars.

"I’ll never be good for Daisy but I ache and I am … lonely."

Daisy has lived an extremely sheltered life.  Her mother was murdered when she was little, and now her Dad suffers from agoraphobia and fears for his safety and the safety of Daisy.  She is home-schooled and not allowed out but to get basic supplies and Daisy is suffocating, she just can't do it anymore.  So over the years she saves a small amount of money and she runs, finally gaining her independence and experiencing the world for the first time.

Nikolai "Nick" knows no other life than being a hit-man.  He knows nothing about love or trust.....that is until he meets Daisy.  He is intrigued when he sees her and watches her.  When they meet they are instantly drawn to each other and they can't deny the chemistry they share.  Nikolai makes Daisy feel things she has never felt, and Daisy makes Nickolai want to be a better person and live a different life.  Nick has one last hit to make, can he complete this job and keep Daisy safe? What happens when Daisy finds out who Nick really is......will they get to live the life they are both longing for and experience true happiness?

"There is a darkness in her, and it makes her all the more appealing. If there is darkness inside her, perhaps she will understand the darkness inside me."

I really enjoyed this book and Nick and Daisy's relationship.  The Last Hit was sexy, mysterious, and suspenseful.  I loved reading about the sexy bad guy who finds a girl that makes him want to do right. Can't wait for Daniel and Regan's story.

"Strength is overcoming your worst fear." ~ Charlie Cole

*** Due to adult content, this book is recommended for readers 17 years+ ****

Review

4.5 Stars

This series has been an captivating from the beginning and Fighting Back was no different.

Rebecca Donovan has felt alone forever. After losing her parents, grandmother, and then sister-she's never had someone to depend on but herself. Last year, she thought she found the person she could rely on but all of that changed in the blink of an eye. Still, she dusted herself off and kept going on with her life. When she is suddenly vulnerable and in danger Charlie Cole is the only person she feels safe around.

Charlie Cole lives his life one woman at a time; no commitments, no strings attached. When a big misunderstanding ruined his chances with Rebecca last year he gave couldn't figure out what it was about her that made him want more-but he knew he couldn't haven it anymore. When he's suddenly given a chance to protect her and make her whole again he doesn't pass up the opportunity and suddenly he's feelings are back and stronger then ever.

Just like Saving Ella, this story was beyond emotional. You could feel everything that both characters were going through; fear, love, confusion, anger, and so much more. I loved the fierceness behind Rebecca. She was scared but it brought out such an inner strength in her you couldn't help but admire it. Charlie Cole was the typical alpha male but the love and passion he had for making Rebecca feel safe and whole again was beyond swoon worthy. He didn't care what it took-he was going to help her heal. When together, they ignite hot and steamy and make you want what their relationship has-passion.

You definitely have to read this book but beware-there was a cliff hanger that leads to book 3 that I am now anxiously awaiting! Loved this and can't wait for Tortured Soul.

I'm just a little Aussie girl with a big imagination, so much to write and so little time to do it. When I'm not writing (or reading) I am kept smiling and sane (for the most part) by my 5 year old daughter. She is the light in my world. I have a wonderfully supportive family who keep me completely grounded. Trust me, they will never let any success go to my head!! And I love them for it. I enjoy ice cold ciders, barbeques, music and art. I hate cooking, in fact I think I have major kitchen allergies. My feet rarely grace anything other than flip-flops and even in the middle of a hot Aussie summer, I love my jeans!!! To sum me up in a few words (and you know how hard just a few words is for an author) ~ easy going, laid back, dreamy and passionate.

I hope you all love reading my novels as much as I love writing them.

Excerpt

Marcus Walker My heavy breathing prevents me from speaking, but I don’t need to say a word. Her eyes lift up to greet me, as if she could sense me before she could hear or see me. Wide gray eyes melt into pools the second she realizes that I am really here. I bolt across the room and clutch her delicate, warm body to mine. She nuzzles her face into the crook of my neck, drawing in a deep breath and then relaxing into me. “I’m here now, Baby.” I whisper against her cheek. A silent sobbing takes over and her entire body trembles from holding the grief in too long. With my arms already engulfing her small body, I draw her tighter against my chest. I glance up and see the guilty ass look plastered on Kole face, confirming that they have told her the news and I am about to get my pissed off on. Jerking my head toward the door, I silently suggest he can leave and that he better take everyone with him. After simply holding me for a while in a tight embrace, she slowly pulls away and peers up at me through matted eyelashes. Tenderly, I raise my hand up, cup her cheek, and stroke my thumb over her bottom lip. Staring passionately into my eyes, she softly kisses the pad of my thumb. My god, her full lips and sad eyes make me want to kiss the hell out of her. But I can’t take advantage of her when she’s hurting. I slide my hand under her chin, tipping it upward. My love for her grips hold of my soul and it screams for me to handle her with care. Placing my forehead against hers, I squeeze my eyes shut and force away the desire to ravage her on this damn countertop. Being away from her was too much. I kiss her face, starting with her forehead. My lips heat instantly connecting with her smooth skin. I breathe in deeply, savoring her intoxicating scent. She slowly glides her hands up my arms. Her fingernails scrape along my skin, sending shivers through every cell in my body. My lips move along her forehead and down the side of her face where I place several lingering kisses and I feel the grief flowing away with each one. Moving down her neck, I slide my nose along the edge of her ear and kiss her earlobe. I need to taste her. My tongue edges along her ear, retracing my path. Her deep gasp tells me that I am taking her mind off of everything. A lustful moan rattles hard in my chest, like a bullet just ripped through me, slicing my dark heart. Breesan is my light in this dark and sinister world, bursting forth. It is her love alone that brightens the evil pathway and draws my heart out of the eclipsing blackness, dimmed by past relationships. Needing more, I wind my hands through her long dark curls and draw her closer, by digging my fingers into her neck. The pressure isn’t enough to hurt her, but it is enough for her to understand exactly what I must have. She spreads her legs apart and I take up position between them. Caressing one hand down her back, I reach her hip and grip it tightly and she comes willingly to me. I drag her to the edge of the counter and press hard into her. Slow down, I tell myself. “You’re really here,” Breesan says, believing it so, now that she’s out of her earlier haze. She's panting hard and her heart rate matches mine. Wanting her to know how much I missed her, I graze my mouth over her bottom lip, instantly needing more. Covering her mouth with mine, I kiss her softly but it only adds to my desire. Her lips move in unison with mine and our reunion becomes scorching. I shouldn’t kiss her so passionately, during a time like this, but she is everything. Thrusting her breast against my chest, Breesan opens her mouth with a heavy moan. Hearing that sweet sound, I lose my mind and I take it - roughly. I take every whimper, every grunt and every sigh, but it’s still not enough. I want more. While pushing my rock solid hard-on between her widespread legs, I pull her by her sweet ass brutally against me. She clinches her legs tightly, holding me against her center tightly and I almost come apart. I feel her heating from our friction and all I want at this very moment is to drop down on my knees and taste her. Releasing the intense hold I have on her backside, I slip my hand around her hip and graze over the top of her thigh. I can’t stop myself. I need to feel her. Incapable of processing a damn thought any longer, I take our relationship to a step we’ve never been. I glide my hand between her legs and cup her, feeling her wetness through her shorts. Throwing her head back, she groans and pushes forward, against my hand. “Ohmygod,” Her voice is raspy with bliss. I drop my eyes down to where my fingers press into her, feeling my heart stall completely. Mygod, watching her writhe on my hand is the most fucking intoxicating thing I’ve ever seen, even with her fully dressed. “Marcus, I need you so much.” She says in a voice only meant for the bedroom. Hearing her say my name and telling me her needs while I’m getting her close to climax causes my heart to squeeze so tight that I feel like it might explode. Clawing her nails into my hair and pulling me down, she crashes my mouth on hers. In this kiss, I give her my heart, my soul and everything that I am, confirming after being away from her too damn long, that I am irrevocably in love with her. She slips her hands under my shirt, tracing up my stomach and stopping when she reaches my chest. She needs me too, I justify practically screwing on the kitchen counter. “Not in the kitchen.” A playful voice sings, breaking up our reunion and I want to kill the son of a bitch for interrupting us. Stilling in my arms, Breesan’s gray eyes snap open, piercing me with a combination of fear and embarrassment that surges through them. She whispers, “Ohgod.” “Hey you two love-birds, I said, not in the kitchen. So knock it off.” It is Sam barging in that explains Breesan’s reaction. Because it is my sister and not one of the guys she looks like she wants to crawl under a rock and hide. Looking at Breesan’s swollen lips and tangled hair, I’m thankful that I didn’t go against my promise and fuck her now. After everything that’s happened, it would be a real bastardly move on my part.
